Local swimmers dive into prep season with Colony Relays

PALMER — The Wasilla girls swimming squad won four relay events during the inaugural Colony Relays at the Palmer Pool on Saturday.

The Warriors earned first place in the 200-yard freestyle, 400 butterfly, 400 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay events.

Colony won a pair of girls’ relays, the 200 medley and 400 backstroke.

Brittany Shattuck (50 butterfly) and Rachel Kennedy (1-meter diving) each won individual events for the Warriors.

Kalila Sawyer led the Palmer Moose with a second-place finish in the 50 butterfly, while Karina Barria led the host Knights with a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke.

The Wasilla boys also won four relay events.

The Warriors earned first place in the 200 medley, 400 butterfly, 400 backstroke and 400 freestyle relays.

Charles Frey (50 backstroke) and Jeff Frey (100 freestyle) won individual events for the Warriors.

Alexander Deedy led the Knights with a win in the 1-meter diving event, while Branham Blake led Palmer with a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle.
