MAT-SU — Local teams were not inlcluded in the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network’s Prep Football Poll for the third time this season, but Houston did receive votes in the small-schools list, released by ASBN on Monday afternoon.
The Hawks, ranked fourth last week, fell out of the small-schools top-5 with a 44-14 loss to second-ranked Kenai Central (2-1). Soldotna, which hosts Houston (2-1) Friday, held onto the top small-schools spot with a 26-20 win over Northern Lights Conference rival Homer.
Undefeated Thunder Mountain (3-0) remains at third after its lopsided win over Nikiski. Skyview, a 35-12 winner against Sitka, moves onto the list for the first time, and is ranked fifth.
West Anchorage (3-0) jumped to the top of the large-schools poll after beating the previously top-ranked Chugiak Mustangs last Saturday. Juneau-Doulgas (3-0), which beat Palmer 17-7 at Machetanz Field last Friday, stays at No. 2. Palmer, ranked fourth last week, dropped off the list with the loss.
Service (2-1), Chugiak (2-1) and Bartlett (2-1) round out the large-schools top-5.
