MAT-SU — Mat-Su Borough School District students once again swept away the competition to defend their titles in Saturday’s Alaska State Science Olympiad Competition at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Teeland Middle School and Mat-Su Career and Technical High School finished first in the team divisions to earn the opportunity to represent Alaska at the National Science Olympiad Competition in Orlando, Fla., May 17 to 18 at University of Central Florida.
Mat-Su Science Olympiad coordinator Timothy Lundt said more than 300 students from 19 middle and nine high schools participated.
In the middle school division, Teeland finished first, Palmer Junior Middle finished second and Wendler Middle School in Anchorage was third.
In the high school division, Mat-Su Career Tech finished first, Eagle River High School was second, Colony High School was third and East High School was fourth.
Colony High School also took home the competition’s “Spirit of Science Award.”
