PALMER — Several businesses and organizations are offering space to vendors in light of Friday Fling being put on hold.
Mat-Su Senior Services is offering its parking lot area for Friday Fling food vendors and food trucks while the annual summer market remains in its temporary hiatus.
“It was really an easy decision for us," Mat-Su Senior Services Board President Tom Schulman said. “We're not trying to take away from that event. We're just trying to fill a gap. We're just looking to help out.”
According to Schulman, there will be no charge for utilizing their space. He said the senior center puts a lot of emphasis on supporting seniors with programs such as home delivered meals and that thought process extends to the surrounding community.
“When it comes to food, we have a keen interest in that," Schulman said.
Schulman said that food vendors had already purchased inventory in anticipation of working at Friday Fling and some may have even hired help. He said their board of directors agreed to try to help these vendors offset these costs.
“The bottom line is… We understand for many of the vendors this is their livelihood,” Schulman said. “We're happy to have a part in helping them have a venue.”
Food vendors and food trucks are welcome to park at Mat-Su Senior Services on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the same time Friday Fling normally runs.
Other local entities such as Cold Moon Collective, Mountain Field Farm, and Dalrymple Law, P.C. have also announced that they will offer help while Friday Fling is on hold.
Dalrymple Law posted on social media stating that they have room for two trucks and a few vendors on their property. Those interested are encouraged to send a message through the official Facebook page.
Mountain Field Farm posted on social media stating that they're working with Cold Moon Collective to host local vendors. Mountain Field officials indicated that they can help accommodate some vendors Friday, June 28 but will be unable to regularly due to wedding reservations. They also indicated that Cold Moon is looking to hold several vendor market days and those interested in the opportunity should contact them directly.
