PALMER — Jamie Smith is coming back to high school hockey.

The veteran of the youth, prep and junior ranks has been named the head coach of the Colony High School hockey program, according to an announcement issued by the school on Wednesday.

“We are excited to get someone of Jamie’s caliber to take the program,” Colony High principal Cyd Duffin said in a press release. “He clearly is one of the top hockey coaches in Alaska and we are fortunate to have him join us at Colony.”

Smith served as the head coach of the Houston High School hockey program for 16 years, winning six Greatland Conference titles and five 3A state championships before stepping down in 2006. He was also the head coach of the Alaska Avalanche Junior A hockey program for one season and is currently the director of the Junior Avalanche youth hockey association.
