Wasilla resident Mr. Lonnie L. Finfrock, 80, died of heart failure at his home Oct. 11, 2003.

A visitation was held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave. in Wasilla.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Sigmund Kristiansen of the Hospice of Mat-Su officiated. Interment with military honors followed at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Mr. Finfrock was born Dec. 6, 1922, in Waynesville, Ill.

He became a resident of Alaska in 1967.

Mr. Finfrock served in the United States Air Force for more than 25 years. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. He also served in Korea and in Vietnam.

After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Denali Fuel and for the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Finfrock enjoyed playing horseshoes, golf, hockey, basketball and football.

His family wrote, "He was a great husband, a wonderful father and grandfather. He had many wonderful friends who will miss him."

Mr. Finfrock was preceded in death by his wife Mary Margaret Finfrock.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Mary A. and Peter P. Pierce of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carolyn K. and Joe A. Encinas of Everett, Wash.; grandchildren Christopher S. Thoms, Michael A. Thoms, Linda L. Simpson, Gary L. Osborne and David B. Osborne.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Mat-Su, 3051 E. Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Wasilla AK 99654.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
