Looney’s 34 paces Palmer to win in Tip-Off opener

It took nearly the entire Thunder Mountain team to keep up with the scorching shooting of Palmer’s Connor Looney Thursday to begin play in the Service Tip-Off tournament.

Looney exploded for 34 points to lead the Moose to a 68-44 win.

Brian Selmer also broke double-digits for the Moose with 11 points on five field goals.

Ketchikan 55, Houston 45

Houston’s Matt Barron led all scorers with 14 points Friday, but it wasn’t enough for the Hawks to top Ketchikan in a 55-45 loss at the Service Tip-Off. Barron was paced by a trio of Ketchikan players with 10 points each.

Sam Brandt and Dustin Griffith pitched in seven points each for Houston in the loss.

Service 69, Palmer 51

A day after thumping Thunder Moujntain to open the Service Tip-Off tournament, Palmer came out flat against the host Cougars in a 69-51 loss Friday.

James Nisbett, Adam Ramoth and Nathan Mayer led the way for a balanced Palmer offense with nine points each, followed by Connor Looney with 8.

Eagle River 75, Colony 63

There was plenty of scoring Friday as Colony hit the road to play Eagle River, but in the end it was the home team that came out with the win, 75-63.

Nate Umbarger led the way for the Knights with 16 points, followed by Damien Fulp with 15 and Hunter Eisenhower with 11.

The Colony trio wasn’t enough to overcome the Eagle River duo of Shaquan Rhoades and Eric Roberts, who scored 25 and 22 points respectively.

Dimond 48, Colony 44

Joe Gray and Hunter Eisenhower combined for 26 Colony points Friday, but they weren’t enough to get over the hump in a tightly played 48-44 loss to Dimond.

Colony led the Lynx by a point after one quarter of play, 15-14, and trailed 27-26 at the half. It was still a 1-point game going into the fourth quarter, and neither team could get much offense going. But Dimond outscored Colony 11-8 in the final stanza to eke out the win.

There was plenty of defense on both sides of the court Saturday in a low-scoring 38-27 Seward win over the Houston boys at the Service Tip-Off.
