Lora Marguerite Voorhis (Carr) was a lifelong Alaskan known by many as Margie, Mom, Granny and Grandma. She was born on January 6th 1951 in La Grande, Oregon to Clifton and Lucille Carr. She moved to Alaska in 1964 and resided in the Mat-Su Valley since 1982 with Roger, her husband of 45 years. Here they raised an extensive family of 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mom enjoyed many things: Clint Eastwood, Quarter Horses, and perked coffee. She enjoyed working alongside her father, a gunsmith in his later years, carving wildlife scenes on hand-finished gun stocks. In the 90's she joined the Valley Quilting Guild with her best friend and sister-in-law Mary Mayse. Together they showed many quilts at exhibits throughout the Valley and the Alaska State Fair.

Fall was a busy time for Mom. She raised a pair of prolific apple trees that has fruited decades of family tradition. Apple butter making was a multi-generational event that spanned a weekend of storytelling, memory making and familial happiness. Mom loved moose hunting and making Moup (moose soup), another tradition. She was an enthusiastic and successful hunter and when the game was scarce, she could always make Slow Moup (beef soup).

Starting in the late 90s, Mom was a volunteer at the family’s yearly Halloween Haunted Barn put on for the neighborhood by in-laws Mary and Del. There she enjoyed a close community with friends, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews while they staged for screams.

Mom was a creative, funny, generous woman that was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. Her home was always open and everyone knew that "the plates are in the cupboard and the coffee's on the stove". She will be missed by all.

Lora is survived by her husband, Roger Voorhis; children, Anthony (Lisa) Gleason, Deanna (Jeff) Jenkins, Nicholas (Amber) Voorhis and John Voorhis Sr.; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Ellie, Haley, Ashlee, Jack, Jacob, James, Lukas, Justice and John Jr.; great-grandchildren, Lucille and Isabel; siblings, Colleen Matthews, Sally (Gene) Adamson, Evelyn (Steve) Smith and Tom Carr. Preceded in death by parents, Clifton and Lucille Carr; siblings, Calvin Carr, Linda Thompson, Kathleen Johnson and Casey Carr.
