It may just be the unlikeliest of places to ever meet a potential date, but the Blood Bank of Mat-Su is hosting "Single's Day" next Friday.
"I told them that they needed to start a dating service for donors," said Bonnie Mitcalf, who suggested the idea. "We could come, donate blood and hook up with other singles.
"I told Marianne [Schlegelmilch, the center manager] who suggested it to the board, and they went for it," Mitcalf said.
The slogans on flyers distributed around town are catchy enough. "A+ is looking for O so perfect," one reads.
Appointments can be made by calling 376-1195.
Walk-ins are taken on a time-permitting basis.
"The motivation for the Blood Bank is obviously to get more donations, but the motivation when I suggested it was to meet someone," Mitcalf said. "It works out for both parties," she said jokingly.
There will be special drawings and giveaways conducted as part of the event. Prizes include two $25 gift certificates to Nobody's Inn in Wasilla.
Each month, approximately 2,200 people must donate blood for the Blood Bank of Alaska to assure adequate supplies in area hospitals, the Blood Bank of Alaska's Web site states.
