PALMER — Local musicians and community members are putting on a fundraising concert to support fellow local musician LuLu Small in wake of massive veterinarian costs after losing her cat Camo Kitty.

LuLu’s Feline “Fun” Raiser takes place Saturday, March 23 from 4 to 8 p.m at Klondike Mike's in downtown Palmer.

The event will feature live performances by Suzy Crosby, Jerry Wessling, John Cook, Monster on the Mountain, Long Nights Moon, We Might Panik, and Lulu Small. There will also be a taco bar, silent auction, and door prizes.

LuLu Small has been performing across Alaska for over three decades. She’s made a lot friends in the local live entertainment scene in addition to participating in various community oriented events over the years. She said that she’s looking forward to reuniting with her musical comrades.

“I love it when my friends come around it’s just a comradery we have,” LuLu Small said.

LuLu Small said that losing her longtime pet hit her very hard, and the financial burden that came with it made it even more difficult to deal with.

“It was very devastating,” LuLu Small said.

LuLu Small said that she’s very thankful for the outpouring of support.

“Luckily, I have so many friends out there,” LuLu Small said. “I’m just blown away. I’m just very very grateful and taken aback from all this. I’m so, so grateful.”

LuLu Small said that she wants to return the kindness she’s receiving and invest back into the community. The longtime local musician has been on the other end of fundraisers on numerous occasions over the years, including her efforts helping organize an event that supported those who were impacted by the 2019 McKinley Fire.

“I intend to pay it forward in some way,” LuLu Small said.

LuLu Small adopted a new cat that was rescued from Mat Valley Kitties & Puppies Rescue. She said that she named the cat Windy since it was found under a dumpster near the Windbreak Cafe.

“My dogs like her too,” LuLu Small said with a laugh. “I’m a big advocate for reducing animals

“All they do is just want to be loved.”

Admission for LuLu’s Feline “Fun” Raiser is $15 (cash only).
