Lynn Canal Adventures’ High and Middle School Running Camp registration open

Registration for Lynn Canal Adventures’ (LCA) two high school running camp sessions opened March 31. Now in its second decade, LCA has become Alaska’s premier high school running camp. After last summer’s switch to day-only camps, two full weeks of overnight camps return: June 26-July 2 and July 5-11. With home base at Eagle River Camp, 26 miles north of Juneau, days are filled with breakout sessions ranging from yoga to sports nutrition to core strengthening with running adventures taking place throughout Juneau’s world-class trail system. A responsible COVID Mitigation Plan is also in place and will be amended as public health recommendations allow.

“Our camp is geared towards runners of all abilities,” explained Merry Ellefson, camp co-founder and co-coordinator. “We’ve hosted state champions, rising 9th graders, and runners who didn’t even know they were runners yet. It’s simply one of the most fun ways to explore our sea to sky trails, make friends, get into shape...with plenty of time to sleep the following week!”

“We also have an amazing group of camp counselors joining us,” remarked camp co-coordinator Hilary Young. “Juneau provides some of the best trail running opportunities in the world. Within just a couple of hours you can go from sea level to a 3,600 foot mountain ridge to glissading down a snow-filled basin. Our camp staff make each of these adventures fun, safe, and approachable for everyone. But it’s when we’re not running that their true kitchen and talent show talents shine!”

In addition to a return to overnight high school camps, LCA is adding its first-ever middle school camp. This day camp will run July 12-16 and utilizes the same philosophy developed through a decade of high school camps - community connection and fun, safe, responsible adventuring. Middle School registration opens April 20 at 8:00 a.m.

Camp fees are offered on a sliding scale. “Accessibility is important to our program,” stated Tristan Knutson-Lombard, co-founder and co-coordinator. “We work hard to make camp both top-notch and affordable to all. To that end, we ask campers registering to think about the value of a week spent adventuring in the woods and on top of mountains, and match that with a meaningful contribution for the opportunity to join in a life-changing week. Registration includes all in-camp transportation, lodging, food, a shirt and other gear. Camp attendance is capped at 40 per session and early registration is encouraged as camp fills quickly.
