WASILLA — Mat-Su Borough residents are invited to show their support for local Machetanz Elementary student Isa Weiss by voting for her design in the national McGraw-Hill “What Math Means To Me” contest. If Weiss’ design wins, her class will receive $15,000 in resources.

Weiss is a student in Barb Johnson’s fourth-fifth-grade STEM class at Machetanz.

To vote for her design, visit mymath.shycast.com/submission/show/2078. The site requires users to create an account and log in before they can vote.

Her entry included this description: “I chose to construct a mathematics sailboat because it symbolizes my academic journey through life. Watching the clock as I rush to school, testing math facts in my homeroom class, making change at lunch or helping mom measure ingredients for a delicious recipe — the journey of learning with mathematics never ends. At home, at school or just with friends, I look forward to sailing ahead on this digital voyage my whole life!”
