The Mat-Su Eagles Tier II Pewee hockey squad of the Mat-Su Amateur Hockey Association pulled off a stellar performance in the Bulldog Invitational Tournament at the Tesoro Ice Arena in Anchorage last month.
The Eagles took home the championship trophy in the event.
Mat-Su was a perfect 5-0 in the tournament, defeating the Alaska All-Stars 4-2 in the title game.
"It was just a complete team effort," Mat-Su head coach Eric Troisi said.
The Eagles fell behind 1-0 to the All-Stars early in the contest. Blake Huppert scored an unassisted goal to tie the score at 1-1.
Huppert soon struck again scoring on a one-timer, after taking a pass from Dane Wilson who stood behind the Alaska All-Stars net.
With a 2-2 score going into the third, Levi Johnston scored a pair of goals to give the Eagles the eventual 4-2 victory. Huppert assisted on both Johnston goals, while Jordan Cole added a helper on the Eagles fourth goal.
"The kids played really hard. It was even early, but they pulled it out in the third," Troisi said.
Eagle goaltender Jacob Dargis faced 16 shots in the contest, registering 14 saves. The Eagles totaled 24 shots on goal.
The Eagles are still enjoying an undefeated season with a 19-0-3 record. Mat-Su is 11-0-2 in 13 league games, 3-0-1 in four non-conference contests and 5-0-0 in tournament games.
Mat-Su will next be in action in the annual Christmas Tourney, Dec. 26-29.
