WASILLA — Trinity Barns and Trinity Lutheran Church, 10355 Palmer-Wasilla Hwy., has organized a benefit concert at 7 p.m., today to help Valley resident Jim White complete his home. White is a double amputee with special housing needs.
Musicians from around the Valley will gather for Making Music VI, including Joy Lynch (vocal), Main Squeeze (accordion and guitar), Jacqui and Dwight Shull (vocal and guitar), Hedwig Faber (vocal), Matt and Lona Hammer (vocal and guitar), 60/40 (Vocal, guitar, bass and percussion), Madalyn Kack (vocal), Jennie Krauszer-Barge (vocal) and others.
The idea for the Making Music concerts came from Hank Roesing, a member of the Songwriters of Alaska and Trinity Lutheran Church. He had a dream to create a showcase for local talent that would also help fund worthy local causes.
So Roesing invited some friends to gather on a Friday night at Trinity Lutheran Church where the worship center was rearranged into a performance center with three stages. Some came to play and sing. Others came to listen.
Admission that first night was cans of food for the Palmer and Wasilla food pantries and cash donations also were accepted. More than 600 pounds of food and $1,000 was collected. During the past three years, Making Music has showcased local musicians singing bluegrass, country and western, gospel, classical, classic rock and many other kinds of music.
Friday’s showcase also includes coffee and refreshments.
