WASILLA - A 20-year-old Wasilla man has been accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl who is now three months pregnant.
Friday, Randy Carter, 20, was arraigned in Palmer District Court on four counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a
minor.
The girl's mother reported Carter to Wasilla police officers in May, after she learned that her daughter was pregnant. At first, she didn't know who the father was, but one of her daughters had read the girl's journal and another suspected Carter.
In the journal, which the girl agreed to show Josten, she wrote that she was in a predicament about telling her family that Carter was the father of her baby.
Carter told Wasilla police officer Ruthan Josten, of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, that he knew the girl was three months pregnant and that he was probably the father, although he "had some doubts," Josten noted, because he said the girl is "fairly promiscuous." He said they had sex twice in February.
He wrote a letter to the girl, which her mother provided to police.
Part of the letter read: "i don't want to think of all the impending pain of such things as not being present at the birth an empty father line on the birth cirtificate my child nowing me only as uncle randy or the thought of you going through this alone no i wont i cant have it this will not stand though."
The girl's journal entry, which she agreed to show Josten, said he had included $50 with the letter. She told Josten he had said "he does want to be involved with his baby, and asked if it would be wrong…"
Carter agreed to submit a DNA sample to police.
The girl told Josten that she had known Carter for the last four years; she was friends with his younger sister. He became more affectionate in January, she said, but he insisted that "it couldn't be a public relationship because society would not approve of their age difference," Josten's affidavit said.
Carter at first denied that he had had sex with other underage girls, Josten wrote. But when questioned, he admitted he was previously involved with a girl in Homer who told him she was 15.
Josten said she is still investigating that case.
Thursday, Carter was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. He is being held in lieu of $2,000 bail plus a court-approved third party.
