WASILLA -- A highly intoxicated man commandeered a vehicle Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the parking lot of the Wasilla McDonald's after assaulting two individuals and breaking a double-paned window with his bare hands, according to an affidavit filed by the Wasilla Police Department.
Andrew E. Robinson, 26, reportedly threatened Staci Lovell, 41, and her daughter, Megan, 14, after a dispute over money that occurred inside the Wasilla Pizza Hut outlet.
Megan said in a phone interview that a $20 bill fell out of her purse and Robinson grabbed it and started walking toward McDonald's.
Megan and her mother pursued Robinson across the street, yelling at him to return the money. When they reached McDonald's he pulled the money out of his pocket and threw it on the ground while making "very rude remarks," and "threatening to punch my Mom in the face," Megan said.
Lovell grabbed the money while Megan called the police. Robinson then reportedly punched the upper exit door window twice, shattering it. The window is double-paned safety glass, the affidavit stated, with an estimated replacement cost of more than $500.
Robinson, whose hands were cut and bleeding, ran into the parking lot and got into a parked white sedan. The sedan's driver, Michael Burns, 20, said in an affidavit that he had left McDonald's and gone to his vehicle for safety after seeing the disturbance and hearing the window shatter.
Robinson reportedly forced Burns to drive away from McDonald's. Burns said Robinson's hands were covered in blood and he was threatening him. Burns told police he felt he would be harmed if he did not comply with Robinson's demands.
Wasilla Police Officer Douglas Sonerholm arrived at McDonald's just as Burns' white sedan was pulling out of the parking lot. Sonerholm's affidavit stated that a crowd of people was standing in the parking lot, pointing at the sedan as it pulled away. Sonerholm pulled the vehicle over on Crusey Street and arrested Robinson.
Robinson has been arraigned on charges of kidnapping, assault and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $10,000, with a court-approved third-party custodian. He is currently being held at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
