PALMER -- A Wasilla man was arrested early Tuesday morning on a felony assault charge after allegedly pointing a shotgun at his former girlfriend and pulling the trigger.
Christopher Aaron Kevan was charged with domestic-violence assault in the third degree as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving weapons. He was arrested by Wasilla police at his Peck Street residence and lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
According to charging documents, Kevan, 22, and his girlfriend had been together a year but she recently began the process of moving out. Kevan had been out drinking Monday night and came home with two girls, charging documents said.
"He was upset at [his former girlfriend] and started yelling at her upstairs as he continued drinking," documents said. "Kevan then pulled [an unloaded] shotgun from behind the couch, pointed it at [the woman's] face, operated the action and pulled the trigger."
Kevan then loaded the gun and pointed it at his head, threatening to kill himself, according to Wasilla police officer Cecil Dickerson's affidavit.
The woman was able to get the gun away from Kevan, and later told Dickerson that he has pointed guns at her before, the affidavit said. Dickerson said the woman didn't think Kevan would intentionally shoot her but she was worried the gun might go off when he pointed it at her.
Kevan admitted keeping guns behind the couch but denied the incident described by his former girlfriend, according to Dickerson. The officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol from Kevan, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery.
Third-degree assault is a class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $50,000.
