PALMER — An 81-year-old man put an Alaska State Trooper in the hospital Monday after a traffic stop, authorities said.
Troopers arrested Arthur Kohanes Monday at Three Bears Grocery store after he assaulted a trooper during a traffic stop of the 1998 white Ford Taurus he was driving on the Palmer Wasilla Highway.
Troopers say their investigation determined that Kohanes was driving with a canceled license around 4 p.m., April 20. During the contact, troopers say Kohanes assaulted a trooper, causing minor injuries to the officer.
The trooper was treated at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer and released.
Kohanes was charged with assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and driving with a canceled license.
He was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, and later released on his own recognizance bail.
The vehicle was impounded and towed from the scene.
