Man arrested for heroin distribution

MEADOW LAKES — A traffic stop Saturday led troopers to a man who was wanted on a fistful of warrants and who they believe also was selling drugs.

According to court documents that Alaska State Trooper Neil Blakeslee filed in the case against Dalton Jacobs, at 11:43 p.m., June 21 the trooper spotted a gray 1997 Jeep Cherokee driving northbound on Pitt-man Road with a broken taillight and no front license plate.

“When I turned my patrol vehicle around to stop the Jeep, the Jeep accelerated away from me and turned down North Edenfield Road. I was able to catch up with the Jeep as it turned into a driveway approximately half of a mile down North Edenfield Road,” Blakeslee writes.

The driver, Justin Simas, 22, of Wasilla, allegedly didn’t have a license. Blakeslee writes that Simas was nervous, with shaking hands and an uneven voice. Simas also was on felony probation.

Since Simas was on probation, Blakeslee just had to call Simas’ probations officer to get permission to search the Jeep.

Inside the Jeep, Blakeslee writes, he found 2.46 grams of heroin packed into three baggies, a scale, and a tablet computer, on the home screen of which was a picture of Dalton Jacobs, 21, of Wasilla. Blakeslee didn’t know that was his name at first, though, since Jacobs allegedly gave him another name and birth date.

“Jacobs admitted that he had tried to use his cousin’s identification because he knew he had numerous outstanding warrants,” Blakeslee writes.

A trooper press release says he actually had four warrants for his arrest.

As for the heroin: “when questioned, Jacobs eventually admitted that the heroin was his and that he had bought it approximately seven hours prior in Anchorage,” Blakeslee writes.

Jacobs was arrested on the warrants and for the new charges of heroin distribution and providing false information to a peace officer. Simas, meanwhile, was arrested for driving without a license and for violating probation. He was jailed without bail.

Jacobs’ bail was set at $12,050 and he was ordered to find a third party to watch him before he could be released. As of Thursday morning both men were still listed as inmates at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
