Man arrested in conjunction with November fatality

ANCHORAGE -- Alaska State Troopers Thursday morning arrested a Wasilla man accused of murder and took him from Providence Alaska Medical Center to Cook Inlet Pretrial Facility.

John Knauss, 42, is accused of driving drunk and causing the death of a four-year-old boy in November. He was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury at Palmer Superior Court on one count of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and driving while intoxicated.

The indictment alleges that Knauss caused the death of Floyd Mack on Nov. 27, 2001, and serious injury to Mack's mother and sister, Linda Mack and Jeanette Siebert.

Knauss was hospitalized for nearly three months, recovering from multiple fractures and internal injuries. He currently is in the medical wing at Cook Inlet, said trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson, but is able to walk and move around.

Knauss was scheduled for a Friday arraignment in Anchorage Superior Court, but that was continued until Monday so he could be transferred to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. He will be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. in Palmer Superior Court.
