Man bailed out of jail, kidnapped for pot stash

MEADOW LAKES — Four Anchorage residents face kidnapping charges following a drug-related incident here Monday evening.

Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a fight in progress around 9:21 p.m., July 16 at the Tesoro station at Mile 49, Parks Highway.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that Anchorage residents Jonathan Walls, 31, Jeffrey Ahvan, 24, Amone Mavaega, 20, and Katrina Walls, 26, had bailed Anchorage resident, Jonathan Hill, 22, out of Mat-Su Pretrial Facility — and then kidnapped him.

Jonathan Walls alleged Hill took marijuana from him and demanded to know where it was, troopers say in a statement.

Hill had been in jail in the Valley since Friday when he was picked up for two counts of possessing prescription medications that weren’t his. The rest of his Alaska criminal record contains nothing more serious than driving offenses, some for commercial vehicle infractions.

While the group was stopped at Tesoro, Hill tried to escape and a fight broke out, according to the AST report. Troopers charged Jonathan Walls and Ahvan with fourth-degree assault as a result.

No marijuana was recovered and Hill was released following the incident, troopers report.

Kidnapping is an unclassified felony, meaning it carries the same potential penalty as murder — up to 99 years in prison. It’s by far the most serious charge any of the defendants has faced in Alaska.

Ahvan was convicted of felony assault in 2006 and has also faced numerous driving-related charges.

Katrina Walls seems to have been involved in some domestic issues as evidenced by a string of protective orders she filed against Jonathan Walls in Anchorage and the Valley.

Mavaega has a spotless record in Alaska.

In 2004, prosecutors dropped a felony drug charge Jonathan Walls faced. Otherwise, his record contains driving offenses.
