WASILLA — A man hunting for black bear was attacked by a bear at approximately mile marker 180 on the Parks Highway.
The victim was bit and called in for assistance. Multiple injuries were reported, including the victim being unable to move his arm. Despite his injuries, the man was able to shoot and kill the bear. Sunshine ambulance responded and a medical helicopter was deployed. The man refused the helicopter and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center by Cantwell EMS. According to Alaska State Trooper PIO Timothy Despain, the man was released from MSRMC Saturday morning and was able to recover the bear’s remains.
