PALMER — An 18-year-old man has been charged with rape in Palmer court.
According to court documents, prosecutors presented their evidence against Jamal D. Garcia to a Palmer Grand Jury on Oct. 3. Their findings were entered in open court the next day.
The court file on Garcia’s case is sparse and details were scarce. An email requesting more information from the Palmer District Attorney’s Office did not illicit any more facts as of Monday afternoon.
But the charge he faces — first-degree sexual assault — is the kind usually reserved for rape of an adult rather than a child. It is an unclassified felony, legally in the same category as murder.
Garcia has not yet been arrested. In addition to the charging documents, his case includes an arrest warrant commanding any law enforcement officer who runs across him to bring him in.
The warrant states that when he’s arrested, Garcia’s bail will be set at $50,000.
