PALMER — A Wasilla man was jailed Sunday, charged with sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl.

According to an affidavit Alaska State Trooper investigator Curtis Vik filed in the case against Michael Brandon Knipe, 22, of Wasilla, troopers first received report of the incident at 10:20 a.m. Sunday.

The initial call was a 911 hang-up call, in which dispatchers heard screaming and the call was disconnected.

Eventually having re-established contact, dispatchers were told that, “’Michael’ did something to a three-year-old,” Vik wrote.

Two troopers showed up to investigate. They found the girl had injuries consistent with sexual assault.

Knipe told troopers, according to Vik’s affidavit, that he arrived at the house after his shift working at Three Bears at about 6:45 a.m. to find the girl crying where she had been sleeping.

He told troopers he brought her into another room and began trying to calm her but the girl would not stop crying, Vik wrote. He then brought her to the bathroom where he discovered the injury.

During a second interview, at around 4:26 p.m. the same day at the trooper post, Knipe recanted his story, saying he had injured the girl when he had sexually molested the girl.

Knipe was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $20,000 bail and will need to find a third party to look over him before he can be released. Prison records show he remains at the facility.
