A 55-year old man was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the Parks Highway in the Meadow Lakes area.
His name was being withheld as of Saturday morning by Alaska State Troopers pending notification of next of kin.
According to an online dispatch from troopers, the man was attempting to cross the Parks near Mile 49 around 10:53 p.m. when he was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 44-year-old Patricia Etheridge of Anchorage. Police said Etheridge was northbound on the highway and hit the man in an area without crosswalks or roadway lighting.
The man was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. All occupants of the Jeep were wearing seat belts and not injured, according to reports. Police have not filed charges and the investigation is ongoing.
