Man dies in Chickaloon ATV crash

CHICKALOON -- A Gakona man hunting on the Permanente Trail died Saturday morning after his six-wheeled Polaris all-terrain vehicle overturned and landed on his head, according to Alaska State Troopers.

James Frey Jr., 59, was hunting Aug. 21 with his brother, John Frey, 53, also of Gakona,near Mile 71.5 Glenn Hwy. when the incident occurred. James Frey was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to troopers, James Frey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not believed to be a factor. No foul play is suspected.

The state medical examiner's office was contacted and released James Frey's body to Valley Funeral Home, according to troopers.
