Man found dead following a report of a house fire in Wasilla

Alaska State Troopers and firefighters found a man dead in a Wasilla area residence after responding to a house fire Saturday morning.

Randy Algood, 71, of Wasilla, was identified as the deceased, according to troopers.

“A preliminary investigation by the Alaska State Troopers and State Fire Marshal’s Office revealed that Algood intentionally started the fire and then shot himself,” troopers wrote in an online dispatch posted Monday.

Emergency personnel received the report of the fire Saturday, just before 11 a.m.
