WASILLA — A Wasilla man who had moments before been the subject of a reckless driving report was killed in a two-vehicle, head-on collision Monday morning on Bogard Road that left the road closed for more than three hours.
According to Alaska State Troopers, 22-year-old William L. Fletcher died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.
Firefighters had to use extraction tools to cut Fletcher from a silver 2009 Volkswagen Jetta sedan after it crossed into the westbound lane of Bogard and collided with a green 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 46-year-old Wasilla resident Jeffrey L. Noffke. According to Troopers, Noffke sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene, where he remained to talk with investigators. Troopers said both men were wearing seatbelts.
“Fletcher suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased,” according to a Trooper statement. “Fletcher’s vehicle was the subject of a REDDI report shortly before the collision.”
REDDI stands for Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately.
A LifeMed helicopter was initially called to the scene, but was waved off shortly before landing on Bogard as medics opted to take Fletcher to Mat-Su Regional Hospital by ground ambulance.
The collision, reported at 9:13 a.m., happened just west of Seward Meridian Parkway in front of Alaska’s Select Inn. Troopers rerouted Bogard traffic on East San Diego and East Anaheim drives until they could complete their investigation.
