A 77-year-old man died as the result of a single-vehicle accident near Sutton Wednesday afternoon.
According to Alaska State Trooper dispatch, Noble Sherwood was driving a pickup southbound on Glenn Highway near mile 66 when he crossed the centerline and ran off the roadway. Troopers reported Sherwood, who was wearing a seatbelt, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Police report the vehicle sustained heavy damage after striking a tree line just before 1 p.m.
According to reports, a passerby began CPR until troopers and EMS personnel arrived and transported Sherwood to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police say it appeared Sherwood had a medical emergency prior to leaving the roadway. Next of kin was notified and the investigation continues.
