Man sentenced to 20 years for attempted sex abuse

PALMER — A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, court documents show.

Superior Court Judge Gregory Heath sentenced Brian Chick, 48, to 20 years with eight years suspended.

A grand jury had indicted Chick on four counts of sexual abuse of a minor. Prosecutors dismissed the three more serious counts after Chick pleaded guilty to the less-serious charge in August, according to court documents.

Court documents give an offense date in January 2013. Chick was arraigned in superior court in April after authorities filed charges against him Feb. 14.

Second-degree sexual abuse of a minor is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000. Heath did not impose a fine in this case, according to court documents.
