WASILLA — A 30-year-old Anchorage man was shot and killed Saturday evening when he apparently stepped in front of a bullet while photographing the shooter.
According to an online Alaska State Trooper dispatch, Adam C. Malaby was trying to take either video or still photos of others shooting in the Jonesville Mine Road area near Sutton. Troopers said he put himself in the line of fire and was struck by a bullet fired from a .40 caliber pistol.
Malaby’s next of kin have been notified and troopers continue to investigate. The name of the shooter was not immediately released.
Here's what troopers released on Monday about the shooting:
On April 16, 2016, at approximately 2036 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified a person had been shot in the vicinity of Jonesville Mine Road in Sutton. When Troopers arrived CPR was being performed on Adam C. Malaby, age 30 of Anchorage. EMS personnel arrived and Malaby was transported by air to Providence Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. Investigation revealed Malaby had stepped in the line of fire while attempting to video or photograph others shooting and was shot by another individual that was firing a .40 caliber pistol. Next of kin have been notified. Investigation is ongoing.
