DESHKA LANDING —Alaska State Troopers were called out this afternoon on a report of a man on a snowmachine who went through the ice in the Deshka Landing in the Deshka River.
Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said the incident took place about 1 p.m. The dive team was called to search for the man, who apparently went under the ice. Early reports on the police scanner were he was holding onto ice.
Peters said troopers had a plane up and thought they could see the snowmachine, but there was no sign of the victim.
Shortly before 6 p.m., scanner traffic had troopers calling the rescue Code Yellow, meaning rescue efforts were not in emergency mode.
