Man uses bat in assault

WASILLA — A 26-year-old Wasilla man was arrested Friday after Alaska State Troopers say he hit a family member with a baseball bat.

According to documents Alaska State Trooper Ryan Anderson filed in court against John Seavey, the call to respond to Big Dipper Drive came in at 3:10 p.m. The man Seavey is accused of assaulting met troopers at a fire station on Horizon Drive.

He told troopers the argument started when Seavey accused the man of stealing tools.

“At some point, John threw a vehicle suspension part at (the man), hitting (him) in the back,” Anderson writes. “John picked up a baseball bat and hit him in the back and arm. (He) stated this caused him pain and rated it a 5 on the 1-10 scale.”

Seavey then threw that same suspension part at the man’s vehicle, shattering its windshield, according to the report. The man told troopers he just left rather than fight back.

Anderson writes that there was a swollen red spot on the man’s back and a laceration on his elbow. Medics checked him out on scene and said he didn’t need to go to the hospital.

Meanwhile, at the house on Big Dipper, troopers talked to Seavey in the doorway of his apartment.

“After he stated he would talk to troopers he went back into the residence,” Anderson writes.

He was arrested and then agreed to talk.

“John acknowledged the argument regarding the tools. John states (the man he’s accused of assaulting) hit him with a pole and he never hit (the man). John acknowledged throwing the suspension at (the man’s) windshield,” Anderson writes.

Anderson writes that he saw a small scratch on Seavey’s back and a spider-webbed windshield on his accuser’s vehicle.

“During a pat down of John, troopers located a small plastic container in John’s pocket. This type of container is commonly used to hold knives, handcuff keys, and/or narcotics,” Anderson writes. “Upon arrest, troopers observed 13 tablets, later identified as hydrocodone with the ‘Drug Bible’ and approximately .82 grams of a brown, tar substance identified as heroin by a field drug test. John acknowledged possessing the heroin and hydrocodone for his person use.”

Seavey was jailed for assault, criminal mischief and drug misconduct. As of Monday afternoon he had posted bail and been released from Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
