Many thanks to Mat-Su firefighters

To the editor:

On Jan. 16, 2012, Mat-Su fire departments - Houston, West Lakes, Central Mat-Su Fire Department and Willow responded - were called to a home in Houston. The work the crews did on this day was amazing, and it was obvious that their hearts were in their job.

After it was evident that the home could not be saved, our community firefighters went into this blazing home with the intent to salvage what they could. The next day, we recognized the excellent job that was done. Personal belongs surrounded the outside of this family dwelling. Many of the items saved were not replaceable, one of them being family pictures. Someone filled a milk crate of family pictures and placed it outside the burning home.

It is so important to us that you be recognized, not only for the work that you do, but for your extra effort for our family. On this day our community firefighters definitely went above and beyond the call of duty. Each personal belonging that was found created a smile and moments of happiness. We thank you.
