Gerard Jr.

Mignano D. Gerard Jr., 44, of Wasilla, died Feb. 24, 2007.

He was the loving father of Christina Mignano and Gabriella Mignano, both of Wasilla; stepfather to Maria Crouch and her husband Dean of Palmer; beloved son of Carol A. Mignano of Cherry Hill, N.J., and the late Gerard D. Mignano; dear brother of Mary Ann McConnell and her husband Joseph of Atco, N.J., and Kathleen Hoelscher and her husband Thomas of Glassboro, N.J.; and dear uncle of Tommy and Abby.

He also is survived by his beloved fiancee, Anne Yacovelli of Wasilla.

Viewing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in the Schetter Funeral Home, 304 W. Rt. 70, Cherry Hill. A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in St. Peter Celestine Catholic Church in Cherry Hill.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill.

Arrangements were with Schetter Funeral Home.

Margery Anne Smith

Longtime Palmer resident Margery Anne Smith, 74, died Feb. 27, 2007, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage after a long battle with congestive heart disease.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Lazy Mountain Bible Church in Palmer at 7 p.m. March 5, 2007.

She was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Wilmington, Del., the youngest of three children born to Anna and Hugh Morrison Sr.

She attended Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va. In 1955, she married Glenn Smith after graduating with a degree in elementary education from Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind.

She taught school in East Chicago, Ind., and Cincinnati before coming to Alaska in 1965. She taught first in Big Lake, and in 1972 settled in Palmer. She retired from teaching in 1993.

She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She and her husband traveled extensively after retirement, visiting friends as far away as Australia.

She was a devout Christian and an active member of Lazy Mountain Bible Church for nearly 30 years.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Glenn Smith; her brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Jody Morrison of Maryland; her sister, Carolyn Morrison of Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Carmencita of Jacksonville, Fla., Martin and April of Sutton, and Brant and Heather of Palmer; and 14 grandchildren.

Dale Nicholas Fidler

Palmer resident Dale &#8220Nick” Fidler, 65, died Feb. 24, 2007, at home of lung cancer.

A celebration of life followed by a potluck is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at the American Legion Post 15 on Outer Springer Road in Palmer.

At his request, his ashes will be scattered in the Knik River.

He was born April 18, 1941, in Massillon, Ohio, to Clyde &#8220Bub” and Bette Fidler. He attended Jackson High School and the University of Alaska.

He spent his life as a mechanic, a vocation he truly enjoyed. During his four years in the U.S. Navy, he repaired diesel and gasoline engines.

In Ohio, he fixed sports cars, operated and repaired heavy equipment, and was an engine test repairman.

He moved to Oscoda, Mich., in 1968 and worked as a service and parts manager, dredge operator and heavy equipment mechanic.

He moved to Alaska in October 1971 with his former wife, Peggy, and their son, Tom. He worked as an adult corrections officer in Sutton, on the North Slope in 1972 as a heavy equipment mechanic, and as a mechanic at Fort Richardson from September 1973 until May 1984.

He and his wife, Julie, were married on Jan. 9, 1981. They have a daughter, Nicole.

He enjoyed the Alaska outdoors, especially exploring Alaska on his four-wheeler. In addition, he spent more than 30 years as an officer of American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1712, Fort Richardson.

He was also a member of American Legion Post 15.

He was a good husband, father, son, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him, his family writes.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Fidler; and his father, Bub Fidler.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Fidler of Palmer; son, Tom Fidler of Palmer; daughter, Nicole Fidler of Palmer; grandchildren, Sierra and Cannon of Palmer; mother, Bette Fidler of Venice, Fla.; sister, Joan Zander Canal of Fulton, Ohio; and extended family members and many good friends.
