Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Margaret S. "Peggy" Church, 79, of Clifton, Colo., passed away Jan. 5, 2004, at Family Health West in Fruita. Church was born Nov. 30, 1924, to John and Nellie Flukey Smith, in Alhambra, Calif. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Newport Beach, Calif.
During her working career, she was a telephone operator and worked on the Alaska Oil Pipeline. Before moving to Colorado, she lived in Newport Beach, Palmer, Texas and New Mexico.
She enjoyed art, rock hunting and decorating, and she was a lifelong adventurer. Her favorite saying was "Old rock hounds never die, they just slowly petrify."
Survivors include her husband Ben Church of Clifton, Colo.; children Robert Wright of Alaska, John Wright of Clifton, and Judy Blalock and Jill Wright, both of Alaska; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial reception was held in Clifton.
