Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Margery Anne Balhiser Cannon, 89, longtime resident of Anchorage and Wasilla, died at home in Wasilla on Oct. 26, 2004.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the United Protestant Church in Palmer, followed by a reception in Eder Hall at the church.
Mrs. Cannon was born June 24, 1915, in Spokane, Wash., and moved with her mother, Esther, to Anchorage in 1915, where they joined her father, Charles. She attended Anchorage schools, graduating as valedictorian from Anchorage High School in 1933 and later attending the University of Washington.
Mrs. Cannon was employed by the Anchorage Public Schools for more than 20 years, was active in the Pioneers of Alaska and was elected with her husband as King and Queen Regents in 1987.
Throughout her life she was athletic and interested in the world of sports. She especially enjoyed sailing, fishing and golf. Mrs. Cannon and her husband traveled extensively.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bruce; their three children, Bruce Jr., Anne and Michael; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Carson Cannon Gagni.
The family prefers that those who wish to make a memorial contribution consider donating to a charity of their choice.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
