Palmer resident Marion Glenn Conaway, 82, died of congestive heart failure Sept. 9, 2003, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. at Matanuska Assembly of God Church, 12801 W. Arctic Ave. in Palmer. Pastor Paul Riley will officiate. Burial will take place in Medicine Lodge, Kan.

Mr. Conaway was born July 30, 1921, in Cabool, Mo.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Conaway became a resident of Alaska in 1946, living in Anchorage until 1962. He lived in Ketchikan from 1962 until 1964. He lived in Medicine Lodge from 1964 to 1965, and then moved back to Alaska, residing in Palmer from 1965 until his death.

Mr. Conaway was a bus driver for the city of Anchorage and Alaska Trailways, in maintenance for Alaska State Housing Authority and was a mechanic for the city of Palmer. He retired from the city of Palmer in 1983.

He was a member of the Wasilla Assembly of God Church and Palmer Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Conaway was interested in lapidary work, his family and fishing.

His family said, "Marion showed us the joy of loving God, how a husband loves his wife dearly, how to care for a family and delight in your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He taught us the value of being together as a family as we traveled often across the U.S.A. and gathered together for special events throughout the years. He will be greatly missed, but we know we'll see each other again!"

Mr. Conaway is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Wanda Conaway; son and daughter-in-law Billy Ray and Susan Conaway; daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie Conaway, Connie and John Warren and Lola and David Smith; grandchildren Franklin Conaway, David Conaway, Rapture Hill, Amber Ripley, Jesse Ripley, Matthew Moore, Joseph Moore, Johnathan Warren, Shane Warren and Latica Whitmer; great-grandchildren Joshua, Caleb and Elijah Conaway and Titus and Taten Whitmer.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Palmer Senior Center, 831 S. Chugach, Palmer AK 99645.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
