Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Marjorie Kay Esler, of New Braunfels and Wasilla, wife, mother and grandmother, died at the age of 65, on Jan. 7, 2002. Marjorie died with her family at her side at McKenna Memorial Hospital after a one-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Marjorie is survived by the love of her life and husband of 42 years, Jack I. Esler; her three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Alex Smith, of Austin, Texas, Carrie and Rick Evans and Kelly and Curtis Stevens, of New Braunfels, Texas; seven grandchildren, Annika and Connor Smith, Joshua Potter, Savanna and Reese Evans and Tyler and Kendall Stevens; and many friends who loved her dearly. Marjorie is also survived by her father, Bud Maahs, of Tigerton, Wis.; and sisters Mary Aton and Penny Ebel. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Maahs.
Marjorie was a retired school teacher and taught many years at Woodville Elementary School, in Woodville, Texas. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, and her family said her many hand-made items will be treasured by her family.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the people at Hematology Oncology Associates of South Texas, McKenna Hospital and Hope Hospice for their warm and caring attention during Mrs. Esler's journey.
