Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Eagle River resident Marna A. Martin, 74, died Dec. 13, 2002, at Kennewick General Hospital in Kennewick, Wash.
A graveside service and interment will be held at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in the spring.
Mrs. Martin was born July 17, 1928, in Duluth, Minn. She graduated from high school in Ellensburg, Wash. in 1946. She attended the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Yakima, Wash., graduating with Licensed Practical Nursing certification in 1948.
She moved to Anchorage in 1975. She attended the University of Alaska-Anchorage and received an associates degree in science in 1994.
Mrs. Martin lived and worked in many different parts of the state, including: Seward, Wrangell, Kotzebue, McGrath, Sandpoint, Bethel, Wasilla and finally settled down in Eagle River. During her travels, she worked in different social service, crisis intervention and homemaker programs. She was last employed with the Alaska State Department of Corrections.
She enjoyed many hobbies during her life such as operating ham radios, oil painting, leather tooling, knitting, traveling and playing the piano.
Her family said, "Mama will be missed by her family and many friends."
Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her father Victor L. Carter; sister Doris Hamilton; and her husband William W. Martin.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Carter of Ellensburg, Wash.; son, John E. "Scott" McDonald Jr. and his wife Barbara of Richland, Wash.; niece, Sherry McDonald of Ellensburg, Wash.; special family member, Shirley Bennett of Eagle River; and three grandchildren; Alyssa, Ethan and Jordan McDonald of Richland, Wash.
