Wasilla resident Mary Ann Menninga, 63, died July 25, 2003, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

A visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Anchorage Baptist Temple. Services began at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Jerry Prevo officiating. Pallbearers included Carl Smith, Allen Damron, Steve Gilbert, Lance Cameron, Paul Brandon and Stephen Shrimplin. Burial will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Mrs. Menninga was born May 12, 1940, in Greenville, S.C., and has been an Alaska resident since 1970.

Her family writes, "Mary 'Ann' was a homemaker whose greatest love was her family and church. Over her lifetime she encompassed a large circle of friends that she thought of as extended family. She was a caring and beautiful soul who touched many people's lives. An active member of Anchorage Baptist Temple, she supported the Children's Ministry and Bus Ministry in the years prior to her illness.

"She is particularly remembered by her children and grandchildren for inspiring, supporting, encouraging and always listening. Several have said, 'She truly gave us unconditional love.'"

Her hobbies and special interests included her children and grandchildren, camping -- watching Larry catch all the fish -- and supporting the Children's Ministry and Bus Ministry at Anchorage Baptist Temple.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Larry Menninga of Wasilla; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and JoAnn Brewer of Plano, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and David Gibson of Wasilla; daughters, Susan Menninga and Nicole Menninga of Wasilla; grandchildren, Shane Brewer, Jacquelyn Brewer, Kendall Brewer of Plano, Texas, Benjamin Menninga, Dallas Dorman, Victorya Dorman and Dalton Gibson of Wasilla.

Mrs. Menninga was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Helen Darby, and brother, James Darby.

Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street.
