MARY ELISABETH DOGGETT

Palmer resident Mary Elisabeth Doggett, 90, died on Feb. 26, 2004, at the Palmer Pioneer Home, of natural causes. A memorial service was held on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. at Big Lake Independent Baptist Church. Doug Ferrett officiated. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Boonville, Calif., on March 6 at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Doggett was born in Cottage Grove, Ore., on May 3, 1913. She attended Whittier College and also did advanced course work in various institutions. She became an Alaska resident when she moved to Palmer in April of 1999.

Retiring in California, Mrs. Doggett was a teacher of grades one to eight. She also was affiliated with Independent Baptist Church of Big Lake and enjoyed reading, knitting, watching her great-grandchildren, sewing, playing cards and Scrabble, and piano playing.

Mrs. Doggett's family said, "Elisabeth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated teacher who changed the lives of hundreds of students during her many years of teaching in California schools. Elisabeth began her teaching in 1940 in a one-room school with 18 students, ages 5-19 in Orleans, Calif., and retired in 1970 after teaching many years in Boonville, Calif."

Her husband of 57 years, Frank Doggett, preceded her in death in 1998 and her sister Margaret preceded her in death in 2004.

She is survived by her brother and his spouse James and Jane Langden of Apple Valley, Calif.; her children and their spouses, Clyde and wife Patricia Doggett of Boonville, Calif., Evelyn Doggett of Eagle River, James and wife Shirley Doggett of Santa Rosa, Calif., Carolyn Doggett and husband Roger Severin of Belmont, Calif., and Leanne and husband Rocky Jones of Wasilla; grandchildren and their spouses, Christie and husband Thomas Akelkok of Sitka, Judy and husband Paul Urbano of Palmer, and Mary Barnes and Jennifer Fare, both of Ukiah, Calif.; great-grandchildren Adam and Kobe Akelkok of Sitka, Kalyn, Megan and Frank Urbano of Palmer, and Will Barnes of Ukiah, Calif.

Funeral arrangements were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
