Mary Ruth Psenak, 89, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s on Sunday, June 28 while residing at Tranquility Manor in Palmer, Alaska.

Mary was born in Willoughby, Ohio to Hazel and Roy Harris on October 13, 1930. She married David Psenak on March 28, 1949 and they were together for 71 years. They have four children: Vicki Psenak of Austinburg, Ohio, Jim (Juhree) Psenak of Palmer, Alaska, Sharon Psenak of Waitsburg, Washington and Dale (Brenda) Psenak of Palmer, Alaska.

Mary graduated from Kent State University in 1968 and was a third-grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary in 1968/1969. In 1969 Mary and David and their younger children began the adventure of a lifetime by moving to Palmer, Alaska. She taught school until she opened her own real estate company. Mary owned and operated Tri-Valley Real Estate from 1972 until she retired in 2003.

Mary is survived by her husband and children. In addition, she was Grandma to nine and “Grandma Great” to 14, with number 15 on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Taylor and sisters Carol (Dan) Wallace of Meadville, Pa, Beatrice (George) Arnold of Jefferson, Ohio and Francis Brown of Phoenix, Arizona.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Alfred “Bud” Harris, James Norris Harris, Thaddeus Taylor and Eugene Taylor; sisters Kate LaDow and Sally Williams.

Mary was a very caring and giving person who will be missed by many. She was an intelligent, hard working woman guided every day by her strong faith. She treated others as she wanted to be treated and she was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
