Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

HOMER — Mat-Su divers swept their events at the Homer Invitational Saturday.
Colony’s Connor Eshelman won the boys’ 1-meter dive, posting a slim victory over second-place Garrett Hall of the host Homer Mariners. Eshelman finished with 170.5 total points, while Hall placed second with 167.95.
Mariah Schachle used 192.05 points to win the girls’ 1-meter dive. Schachle was one of two Warriors to place in the top-5. Hillary Graham finished third for Wasilla with 143.50 points.
Eshelman led Colony to a sixth-place finish in the boys’ standings of a meet that included squads from nine schools.
Zane Mileiur scored a fourth-place finish for the Knights in the 200 individual medley. Mileiur also teamed with Tristan Udomporn, Levi McAuliff and Alex Kessler to finish fifth in the 200 medley relay. The same foursome finished sixth in the 200 freestyle relay.
Kevin Snavley finished fifth in the 500 freestyle to help lead Wasilla to a seventh-place finish in the team standings. Keith Pulver was sixth in the 200 individual medley and Gaven Nelson was sixth in the 500 freestyle.
Snavley, Pulver, Mike Foy and Tristan Snavley combined to finish fourth in the 200 medley relay.
Spencer Bloom placed fifth in a pair of events for the Palmer Moose, who finished eighth in the team standings. Bloom was fifth in both the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.
Karina Barria finished second in the 100 butterfly for the sixth-place Wasilla girls. Barria was also sixth in the 200 freestyle.
Katie Stark and Noelle Graham each earned fifth-place finishes for the seventh-place Palmer girls. Stark was fifth in the 100 freestyle and Graham was fifth in the 100 butterfly.
The relay team of Alex Traini, Willow Schlenker, Noelle Graham and Katie Stark finished fifth in the 200 medley relay.
Kayla Anderson was fifth in the 500 freestyle for the ninth-place Colony girls.
