There are several key offices within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) that will be open for the upcoming election. Some of the offices up for election include the MSB Mayor, which is a four-year term ending November 2028, several MSB Assembly spots, including District 3, District 6, and District 7. All are four-year terms ending November 2028.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD) school board also openings as the District 1 and District 4 are up for election, with three-year terms ending in November 2027. There is also a District 5 spot available for a 1-year term ending next year.
Any person is eligible for Borough office if the person is a qualified voter of the Borough and meets State and Borough requirements for the office.
Candidates for Mayor shall meet the requirements of MSB 2.08.030, while candidates for Assembly seats shall meet the requirements of MSB 2.12.030; and candidates for School Board seats shall meet the requirements of MSB 19.04.022(C) and 19.04.040
Candidate filing packets will be available for pick-up starting Wednesday, August 14 during the normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and cannot be filed until the filing period opens on August 19. Candidate filing forms can be obtained from the Borough Clerk's Office or downloaded at ww.matsugov.us/elections
The Borough’s regular election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Candidate filing period begins on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 8 a.m. and closes Friday, August 30, 2024, at 5 p.m. at the Borough Clerk's Office, located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer, Alaska.
