MAT-SU — After counting nearly 1,500 absentee and questioned ballots over the past week, Mat-Su Borough election officials handed over the final tallies Tuesday, making the Oct. 5 borough election results official.
Two assembly members were sworn in at the meeting — returning Assembly Member Bill Allen and newcomer Lynne Woods. Assembly members also presented outgoing member Bruce Bush with a plaque and spoke favorably on his behalf before he left to attend another engagement.
“I really appreciated the sense of decorum you brought to this office,” Assembly Member Betty Vehrs said. “You have a real unique perspective.”
Assembly Member Talis Colberg said he, too, appreciated Bush’s perspective — which often fit closely with his own.
“It’s no secret you were my most reliable ally on a lot of votes,” Colberg said. “I appreciate that — it can get quite lonely around here.”
