Mat-Su Borough capital projects survive Governor's veto

MAT-SU — Though Gov. Sean Parnell cut $400 million from the state’s budget, Mat-Su projects were largely spared his veto pen. Of a total $146 million in projects, Gov. Parnell vetoed just $17.7 million from local capital budget projects.

Parnell did not zero out any borough projects and only reduced the funding for two projects.

A $16.2 million project to upgrade the wiring and infrastructure at the school district was whittled to $6 million.

And a second appropriation trimmed was for the oft-discussed, long-dreamed-of rail extension to Point MacKenzie. Parnell’s red pen trimmed the $37.5 million request by $7.5 million.
