Palmer Junior Middle School eighth-grader Sammy Buresh is this week's MSBSD “Student of the Week.”
Palmer Junior Middle School Leadership Class adviser/teacher Esther Heck and the 47 students in her Leadership Class put on a “Jeans for Teens” drive.
“My eighth-grade student Sammy Buresh found out there are close to 800 homeless students in the district, or students who do not have a permanent place to stay,” Heck said. “She organized the jeans drive to help these students.”
The effort collected 341 pairs of jeans and Sammy and her classmates have already distributed some of them.
“Sammy hopes to continue her project at a Palmer elementary school,” Heck said.
A strong component of academic growth, service learning helps students understand the extent to which they can impact positive change in a community, she said.
Congratulations to Sammy Buresh, the MSBSD “Student of the Week.”
