Mat-Su burn suspension remains in effect

WASILLA — A burn suspension in the Mat-Su Valley remains in effect, according to the Alaska Department of Resources Division of Forestry.

The initial suspension was issued Tuesday, according to a press release issued by division of forestry public information officer Sam Harrel. The suspension includes the burning open debris, use of burn barrels and burning of lawns. All is suspended is until conditions improve to moderate, Harrel said in the release.

Small campfires less than 3 feet in diameter are still legal during the suspension, buy forestry officials say that is not advisable due to the dry conditions.

The National Weather Service reported temperatures of 80 degrees in Wasilla on Wednesday and 79 on Thursday. In Palmer, temperatures hit 80 Tuesday, and 79 on both Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature is projected to hit 80 again on Friday in Palmer.
