Mat-Su College celebrates 2012 commencement

PALMER — Commencement ceremonies for 146 students in Mat-Su College’s class of 2012 are at 7:30 p.m., May 11 at the Mat-Su Career and Technical High School.

Graduates must arrive by 6 p.m., sharp.

This year’s commencement speaker is Dr. Sven Haakanson, executive director of the Alutiiq Museum and Archaeological Repository.

Haakanson holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a doctorate in anthropology from Harvard University. He was hired as executive director of the Alutiiq Museum in 2000. In 2007, his work was honored with a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.
